Malta receives two prestigious titles in the Belgian Tourist Awards

On 23rd June 2020, Ambassador Ray Azzopardi, accompanied by Deputy Ms Tania Carabott and his Personal Assistant Ms Nadine Lepere, welcomed and received Mr Gert Van Wichelen, General Manager, Belgian Tourist Awards, Ms Beatrice Mondelaers and Ms Lisa Van den Acker from Glenaki (MTA representatives in Belgium and Luxembourg) at the Embassy of Malta in Brussels.

 

Mr Van Wichelen announced the winners of the Belgian Tourist Awards 2019, chosen by the readers of GRANDE.be and Vacancesweb.be!

 

Ambassador Azzopardi proudly accepted the two prestigious titles awarded to Malta of: (i) Overall winner Destination of the Year and the category title of: (ii) Country of the Year.

Following the presentation of the awards, all present exchanged views on the pillars of the tourism industry in Malta, particularly on the novelties for 2020 and the post-Covid tourism scene.  Ambassador Azzopardi explained how the operators in the hospitality sector in Malta have taken advantage of the confinement period to upgrade their establishments to be in line with post-confinement health protocols.

 

The achievement of these awards has been hugely reported in both local Maltese and Belgian media outlets.
