Ambassador Carmel Vassallo presents Letters of Credence to H.E. Sergio Mattarella, President of the Italian Republic

On 6th July 2020, Ambassador Carmel Vassallo presented his Letters of Credence to H.E. Sergio Mattarella, the President of the Italian Republic at the Quirinale Palace in Rome.

Upon arriving at the Quirinale Palace, escorted by the Italian Diplomatic Protocol and motorised cuirassiers, Ambassador Carmel Vassallo received military honours in the Courtyard of Honour. In the Quirinale’s Lille’s Tapestry Room, the Ambassador presented his wife, Ms. Mary Anne Vassallo and two diplomatic members of Malta’s Embassy, Mr. Clint Borg and Mr. Mauro Sammut, to H.E. President Mattarella. Thereafter, he presented the Letters of Credence to H.E. President Mattarella. After the presentation of the Letters of Credence, Ambassador Vassallo was invited for brief consultations by H.E. President Mattarella in the Study “alla Vetrata”. The ceremony ended with the ritual taking of official pictures next to the Italian and Maltese national flags as well as the flag of the European Union.

Ambassador Carmel Vassallo had commenced his tour of duty as Malta’s Ambassador to Italy on 17 June 2020.
