Reference Number: 08112021, Press Release Issue Date: Nov 08, 2021

On 3 November 2021, Director General Neville Aquilina and the Ambassador of Germany to Malta H.E. Walter Haβmann delivered the opening remarks at the start of a three-day Peace Mediation Capacity Building Programme for Ministry officials being organised by the Ministry for Foreign and European Affairs and the Berlin Center for International Peace Operations (ZIF) with the generous support of the German Federal Foreign Office. The training programme will provide participants with a better theoretical and practical understanding of peace mediation, while also providing them with insights on opportunities and challenges faced by peace mediation practitioners.

This is one of the initatives being organised in the context of Malta’s first National Action Plan for the implementation of United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325 on Women Peace and Security (WPS), which refers to the establishment of partnerships for training and capacity-building to support the implementation of the agenda locally. The Women, Peace and Security agenda has the dual aim of acknowledging and addressing the disproportionately harmful impacts of armed conflict on women and girls as well as highlighting the importance of gender equality in peace processes and conflict resolution.
