Mr Giovanni Buttigieg elected as Vice-Chair to the Committee for Programme and Coordination

Reference Number: 16042021, Press Release Issue Date: Apr 16, 2021

Following Malta’s election to the Committee for Programme and Coordination (CPC) in September, Mr Giovanni Buttigieg, Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN, has been elected its Vice-Chair.

The CPC is the main body responsible for planning and prioritising at the UN, as well as assessing results being achieved.  This position continues to affirm Malta’s standing at the UN, and is an integral part of Malta’s build up in preparation for serving on the Security Council in the near future.  The last time this position was previously occupied by Malta was in 1971.  It is in this Committee that Malta, back then, proposed the establishment of a United Nations office for the seas, and to evaluate the need for an effective international strategy in ocean space.
