Among other topics, they spoke about the relationship between Qatar and the European Union and the need for them to better understand each other and work together for the common good.

Minister Bartolo stressed that such challenges need to be addressed in order for the Libyan people to build trust in their politicians.

Talks also focused on developments in Palestine and the rights of the Palestinian people. In this regard, Malta reiterated its position in favour of the UN resolutions to recognise Israel and Palestine as two sovereign states.

The two sides also spoke about the latest developments on the nuclear weapons agreement with Iran, stressing the importance of dialogue in order to reduce tensions and de-escalate the situation for the common good in the Gulf region.

The Maltese delegation also visited the Chief Executive of Qatar Airways, who confirmed the company’s plans to resume direct flights between the two countries. There were also talks on tourism and food security.

During this visit, Minister Evarist Bartolo and Qatar Minister for Culture and Sport Salah bin Ghanem Al Ali signed a cooperation agreement in the youth and sports sectors.

Minister Bartolo concluded that Malta will continue to seek to strengthen the already excellent relations with Qatar to open new avenues for its business community, the tourism industry and other economic operators, to enable them to take advantage of the opportunities offered by this country.
