Minister for Foreign and European Affairs Evarist Bartolo attended a public online meeting on peace between Israel and Palestine.

In his opening remarks, the Minister expressed concern about recent events in the region, and the loss of life on both sides. While welcoming the ceasefire that had been announced,  Minister Bartolo emphasised that both sides should never give up hope in their efforts to achieve lasting peace. He underlined that there will be no peace and security unless both Israelis and Palestinians enjoy equal rights and live in neighbouring sovereign states recognising each other’s right to exist.

The Minister also reiterated Malta’s position on the conflict, underlining the need to respect the fundamental human rights of all citizens and to fight against all obstacles to a meaningful two-state solution with Palestinians and Israelis living side-by-side in peace.

The event was also attended and addressed by the current Ambassadors of Israel and Palestine to Malta, His Excellency Eyal Sela and His Excellency Fadi G H Hanania respectively.

The discussion was organised by the Alumni Committee of the University of Malta’s Department of International Relations and moderated by Dr. Valentina Cassar from the same Department.
