Minister for Foreign and European Affairs Evarist Bartolo participated in a High-Level event to mark the International Year for the Elimination of Child Labour. The event was an opportunity to discuss best practices in the elimination of child labour as well as recommit to ending child labour in all its forms by 2025 in line with Target 8.7 of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

In his intervention, the Hon. Minister said that children should be ensured safety, security and well-being. They also have the right to education – a right that needs to be upheld in peace, conflict and post-conflict settings.

The Hon. Minister went on to call for the international community to work together to eradicate child labour by addressing its root causes, including factors that lead to poverty as well as market demands. Finally, the Hon. Minister called for consumers to make more conscious purchases to discourage child labour world wide.
