The Ambassador and Permanent Representative

Born in Malta in 1964, Ambassador Christopher Grima is a career diplomat with over thirty years’
experience in Malta's Ministry for Foreign Affairs and Trade Promotion, serving in different capacities at Head Office and overseas.

Between 2016 and 2019, Ambassador Grima was Advisor on Global Issues in the Ministry for Foreign Affairs and Trade Promotion, most recently working in the Office of the Permanent Secretary on Malta’s candidature for membership of the United Nations Security Council.

Previously, Ambassador Christopher Grima served as Malta’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York between 2012 and 2016.

From 2007 until 2011, Mr. Grima was Malta’s resident Ambassador to Austria, with concurrent
accreditation to Hungary and the Slovak Republic, the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) and the International Organisations in Vienna.

Ambassador Grima was Deputy Head of Mission in Vienna between 2004 and 2007. He served in
Brussels between 2000 and 2004 during Malta’s negotiations for membership of the European Union.

Ambassador Grima also served at Malta's High Commission in London between 1987 and 1991 and at Malta's Permanent Representation to the United Nations in New York between 1991 and 1995, subsequently serving in the Multilateral Affairs Directorate in the Ministry for Foreign Affairs.

He holds a Master’s Degree in Diplomatic Studies with Distinction from the University of Westminster in London.

Ambassador Grima is married to Mateja. He has two children, Hannah and Nicholas.
