 H.E. Dr André Borg presents his Credentials as the new Ambassador of the Republic of Malta to the Lebanese Republic

 

On 15 July 2021, H.E. Dr André Borg presented his Letters of Credence to H.E. General Michel Aoun, President of the Republic of Lebanon, as Malta’s newly accredited Ambassador to Lebanon. H.E. Dr Borg also presented the letters of recall of H.E. Dr Philip Sciberras, former Ambassador of the Republic of Malta to the Republic of Lebanon, on behalf of H.E. President George Vella. The ceremony took place at the Presidential Palace in Baabda.


H.E. Michel Aoun welcomed H.E. Dr André Borg to the post of Ambassador of the Republic of Malta to the Lebanese Republic. H.E. Michel Aoun lauded the friendly bilateral relations between Malta and Lebanon. Moreover, he augured that during H.E. Dr Borg’s tenure as Ambassador, the two countries enhance bilateral relations and explore new avenues of political and economic cooperation. H.E. Dr Borg assured the President of the Lebanese Republic that he will endeavour to improve on the excellent relations that already exist between the two countries. 


He also underscored that his appointment is an attestation of Malta’s commitment to foster stronger relations for the mutual benefit of both Peoples. In light of the political and economic challenges currently facing the Lebanese Republic, H.E. Dr Borg extended the Republic of Malta’s steadfast and unwavering solidarity with the People of Lebanon and augured for constructive dialogue.


H.E. President Aoun and H.E. Dr Borg also discussed the latest regional developments and common challenges currently facing Mediterranean countries. H.E. President Aoun and H.E. Dr Borg reaffirmed the importance of exploring areas of cooperation on matters of mutual regional interest, and towards the enhancement of security and stability in the Mediterranean region.


During H.E. Dr Borg’s visit to Beirut, meetings were also held with: H.E. Zeina Akar, caretaker Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defence and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants, of Lebanon; H.E. Ambassador Hani Chemaitely, Secretary-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants, of Lebanon; H.E. Francois Abisaab, Chargé d’Affaires of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta in Lebanon; and Mr Martin Skylv, Deputy Officer of the Delegation of the European Union to Lebanon. H.E. Dr Borg also visited the Consulate of Malta in Lebanon upon the invitation of Mr Raymond Bechara, Honorary Consul General of Malta to Lebanon.

 

Ambassador Borg was accompanied by Second Secretary Ms Emily Mifsud.
