Economy: Did you know that …
With an economic expansion of 1.6%, the EU defined the Maltese economy as the best prefer in the EU in the first quarter of this year.  This is remarkable, given also that Malta is in the Euro Zone.
 
The World Economic Forum (WEF) Global Competitiveness Report for 2011/2012 ranked Malta 51st out of 139 countries. Malta gets high marks for innovation and for its financial markets.
 
None of the Maltese banks ever needed any bailouts … on the contrary they have been defined by the World Economic Forum as among the top 15 banks in the world.
 
Unemployment in Malta stands at 6.4%.  This is the fourth lowest in the EU.
 
The IMF stated in October 2013 that ' Malta has shown remarkable resilience in the face of a major crisis in Europe. Since the beginning of the crisis, the average growth of the Maltese economy has been one of the best in the euro area and the unemployment rate remains one of the lowest. This resilience was underpinned by robust service sector export growth and a sound banking sector,"
