A Tourism Fair is being held this week in Utrecht where tourist destinations are being promoted among business networks and visitors that are seeking information on tourist destinations for their next vacation. On the 9 January Ambassador Cole accompanied by Mrs Cole and First Secretary Gabriel Camenzuli visited the Malta stand set up by the Malta Tourism Authority.  MTA office representatives Alexandra Valletta and Sharon Falzon, MTA representatives based in Amsterdam, Air Malta’s representative to the Netherlands and Maltese tour operators were also present.

During this week more than 120,000 visitors are expected to attend this fair where Malta will be promoted as a tourist destination with operators, agencies and prospective tourists. It is an opportunity to establish networks with Dutch operators in the tourism sector. In 2017 around 60,000 Dutch visited Malta with a total expenditure of around 50 million euros. This has resulted in an increase of more than 10,000 tourists from the Netherlands from the previous year. 2018 the year of Valletta European Capital of Culture is expected to be another successful year with more Dutch nationals visiting Malta to attend the cultural events.
